Does PR-Tracker have to be installed on the SQL Server to use SQL Server as the database?

Yes. PR-Tracker must be installed on an SQL server and all the client computers if you want to use SQL Server as the database. The way PR-Tracker is designed, you only need a one user license for SQL Server because PR-Tracker uses DCOM to coordinate network communication instead of the SQL Server connection. The way it works is like this:

PR-Tracker (on a client computer) connects to PRTRACK.DLL (on the server) through DCOM. PRTRACK.DLL runs under the authority of the user you specify and connects to the database (either Access or SQL Server). Consequently PRTRACK.DLL must be installed and registered on the SQL Server and it gets installed when you install PR-Tracker.
