QUESTION:

I am testing the PrtrackerWebService. When I click on the Verify Connection operation and then press the Invoke button I get the following error message

System.Net.WebException: Unable to connect to the remote server ---> System.Net.Sockets.SocketException: No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it.

ANSWER:

This probably means the PR-Tracker Server Service isn't started. Go to the computer hosting the PR-Tracker Database (the PR-Tracker Server) and open Services. Find the PR-Tracker Server Service and set the Startup Type to Automatic. Then start the service.

If the computer hosting the database is not the computer being used to host the PrtrackerWebService, start PR-Tracker on the computer hosting PrtrackerWebService and connect to the PR-Tracker Server in client-server mode. Connecting to the PR-Tracker Server once initializes the PR-Tracker Settings.xml file in the web server.

Note that PR-Tracker does not have to be running on the web server for the web service to work. It only has to be started once to initialize the Settings.xml file.
